Kogi State Partners with Energy Commission of Nigeria to Expand Renewable Access

In a move to strengthen Nigeria’s clean energy drive, the Kogi State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) to improve energy access through renewable sources. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at boosting sustainable development nationwide.

The collaboration was formalized during a working visit by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to the ECN headquarters in Abuja, where he was received by Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director-General of the Energy Commission.

Discussions during the visit focused on accelerating clean energy projects across Kogi State, with a particular emphasis on off-grid electricity solutions for underserved and rural communities. The partnership is expected to drive the deployment of solar-powered infrastructure, supporting the state’s broader energy inclusion goals.

Dr. Abdullahi presented ECN’s key frameworks, including the National Energy Master Plan and the Renewed Hope Solarization Project, which aims to implement solar energy solutions—such as solar street lighting—across all 36 states in Nigeria.

The collaboration is set to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s clean energy transition, reinforcing the country’s commitment to climate resilience, energy equity, and sustainable infrastructure.
